Veteran actor Shafi Qureshi has highlighted the filmmaking potential of Jammu and Kashmir, saying the region has a large pool of talent and that increased film shootings can create more opportunities for local artists.
Speaking ahead of the International Film Festival of Jammu & Kashmir (IFFJK), Qureshi said Kashmir’s natural beauty, cultural richness and talented people make it an attractive destination for filmmakers. He stressed that more film projects being shot in the region would help local actors, technicians and young filmmakers gain exposure.
Qureshi’s comments come at a time when efforts are being made to promote Jammu and Kashmir as a location for cinema and encourage regional storytelling. Film festivals such as IFFJK aim to showcase films, filmmakers and the cultural identity of the region while creating a platform for emerging talent.
The actor said that bringing more productions to Kashmir would not only support the entertainment industry but also help highlight the region’s stories, landscapes and traditions to wider audiences.
Over the years, Kashmir has remained a popular location for filmmakers because of its mountains, valleys and distinctive cultural backdrop. Several Hindi and regional films have been shot in the region, while local filmmakers have also worked to strengthen Kashmiri cinema.
Qureshi emphasised that opportunities for local artists are important for developing a stronger film ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir. More regular shoots, he suggested, could help young talent gain practical experience and connect with the wider film industry.
