10 lakh pilgrims arrived in the country
In a press conference, Saudi Arabia's Haj Minister Tawfiq Al-Rabiah said that about one million pilgrims from all over the world have already arrived in the country. According to official figures, 1.8 million Muslims took part in the Hajj last year.
The Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam and all Muslims must perform it at least once. The date of the pilgrimage is determined according to the Islamic lunar calendar, meaning it changes every year. In recent years it has taken place during Saudi Arabia's scorching summer months.
