The Karki government in Nepal announced ‘martyr’ status for Gen-Z individuals who died during protests and will provide a financial aid of Rs 10 lakh to their families.
Nepal Prime Minister Sushila Karki announced that those killed during the Gen-Ji demonstration would be declared 'balidani' and their families would be given an ex-gratia of 10 lakh Nepalese rupees. She said that those involved in violence and damage to public property would be brought to justice. Karki directed the secretaries to repair the destroyed police posts.

Number of people killed during protests rises to 72

Meanwhile, the Nepal Police has re-arrested 3,723 prisoners who escaped from various jails during the Jen-Ji protests. However, 10,320 prisoners are still absconding. Some prisoners returned voluntarily, while Indian security forces at the border also helped arrest those who were trying to flee to India.

China on Sunday congratulated Sushila Karki on becoming Nepal's interim Prime Minister. A spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a release here- "China congratulates Karki on becoming the Prime Minister of Nepal's interim government. China and Nepal have a long-standing friendship. China, as always, respects the decision of the people of Nepal." The spokesperson said- "We are ready to work with Nepal to promote the five principles of peaceful coexistence, increase exchanges, cooperation in various fields and deepen bilateral relations."
