Telangana Man Shot Dead in Philadelphia; Family Alleges Fake Pizza Order Was a Trap

Indian national Anshul Kuncha was killed while delivering a pizza in Philadelphia; police are examining leads as family seeks early repatriation of his body.

The death of a 28-year-old Indian man from Telangana in Philadelphia has triggered grief and raised questions over the circumstances surrounding the incident. Anshul Kuncha, who was working in the United States and delivering pizzas part-time on weekends, was shot dead after responding to a delivery request late on Saturday night. His family has alleged that the order was placed deliberately to lure him to a deserted location, though investigators have not yet confirmed a motive.

According to relatives, Anshul had accepted a pizza delivery request to an isolated area of Philadelphia when he came under attack. Family members claimed that unidentified assailants fired multiple shots at close range and fled the scene. They also said none of his belongings were taken, adding to their suspicion that the attack may have been planned.

Anshul, a Hyderabad native, had completed his BTech before moving to the United States for higher studies. After earning his master’s degree, he joined KWC company and later took up weekend pizza delivery assignments for additional income.

Family Raises Questions

Anshul’s sister, Tanvi Kuncha, alleged that the delivery order was a setup and said there was no customer waiting at the address. According to the family, two masked individuals carrying bags were seen in the area around the time of the shooting.

The family has appealed to Indian and US authorities to expedite the repatriation of Anshul’s body. Relatives said they have been informed that the body could be released by Monday, but they are seeking an earlier transfer so that funeral arrangements in India are not delayed.

The Indian Consulate in New York expressed condolences over the incident and said it is in contact with local authorities and the bereaved family to provide all possible assistance.

Investigation Continues

Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said investigators recovered three spent shell casings from the scene. Preliminary findings indicate that the attacker was positioned very close to the victim when the shots were fired. Police also found Anshul’s vehicle nearby with a pizza warmer inside.

Officials said no arrests had been made at the time of reporting. Investigators have traced the phone number used to place the pizza order and are examining it as a key lead in the case.

Surveillance footage obtained from the Philadelphia Housing Authority reportedly captured activity before the shooting. While the actual attack was not recorded, investigators said the video shows two individuals dressed in dark clothing walking behind Anshul shortly before the incident.

Previous Robbery Incident

Family members disclosed that Anshul had previously been the victim of a robbery in the United States, during which cash, a mobile phone and a chain were stolen. They said he was not physically harmed in that incident.

As the investigation progresses, authorities in the United States are working to identify those responsible. The case has drawn attention among the Indian diaspora, while family members continue to await answers and the return of Anshul’s remains to India.
