US President Donald Trump is meeting with several leaders in the Oval Office. In the past 24 hours, Donald Trump has met with two of India's enemy countries, Pakistan and Turkey. On Thursday, Trump met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Pakistan's Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, and Field Marshal Asim Munir in the Oval Office. Speaking to the media, Trump described Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif as great leaders. After the meeting, Trump called Asim Munir a "great guy." He also signed a nuclear deal with Turkey. Both of Trump's moves could be a cause for concern for India, as India does not have good relations with both countries. Furthermore, relations between India and the United States are strained over Russian oil and tariffs. Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar told the media after leaving the White House on Thursday that the US and Turkey had signed a strategic civil nuclear deal. Previously, US President Donald Trump had promised a major announcement after meeting with Erdoğan. This move is being considered a victory for Turkey, as President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was not given such a degree of freedom under the previous Democratic administration.
Urge to Stop Buying Oil from Russia
President Trump has pressured Turkish President Erdoğan to stop purchasing oil from Russia. Trump stated that he would consider re-inducting Erdoğan into the F-35 jet program, emphasizing that it would depend on whether he was willing to do anything for them. Turkey also has good relations with Russia and is a NATO member. Consequently, Trump views Erdoğan as a key ally in ending the Ukraine war.
Called Shahbaz and Munir Great Leaders
Donald Trump met with Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif in the Oval Office on Thursday. Sharif was accompanied by Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir. Trump had previously invited Munir to the White House for lunch. Secretary of State Marco Rubio was also present. The US President called both guests great leaders. Trump's remarks indicate that relations between the US and Pakistan are strengthening under the Trump administration.
The US will not interfere in the Kashmir issue
A White House official stated that Trump has no interest in resolving the Kashmir issue between India and Pakistan. Pakistan has long raised the Kashmir issue on international forums, while India maintains that the issue is bilateral.
