Former US ambassador reveals the reason behind Donald Trump’s tariff hike, citing India’s lack of response to his outreach.
US President Donald Trump has expressed displeasure over the imposition of 50% tariff on India. According to former ambassador Vikas Swarup, the reason for Trump's displeasure is India's joining BRICS and rejecting US pressure in trade talks. Swarup also said that India's stand is firm and Trump's tariff will increase inflation in America.
US President Donald Trump is so angry with India that he has imposed a tough tariff of 50 percent on India.
India completely denied Trump's alleged role in the ceasefire with Pakistan in May. Former Indian ambassador and famous writer Vikas Swarup revealed that Trump's displeasure is also related to India's joining the BRICS organization and rejecting US pressure in trade talks.
Talking to news agency ANI, Swarup said that the relationship between India and America is strategic, while the US-Pakistan relationship is just a game of money.
Along with this, the former ambassador also praised India's firm stand. He warned that Trump's tariff will increase inflation in America itself.
Why did America impose such a huge tariff?
Former ambassador Swaroop said that Trump is angry with India for two reasons. First is India's membership in BRICS. Trump feels that BRICS is an anti-US alliance, which is trying to bring a new currency against the dollar. He wants India to be out of BRICS.
The second reason is the India-Pakistan ceasefire in May. India clearly said that America had no role in this ceasefire. This agreement was reached through direct talks between the armies of the two countries, when Pakistan pleaded for a ceasefire.
Trump claimed at least 30 times that he saved both countries from nuclear war. According to Swaroop, Pakistan not only accepted Trump's statement, but also nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize. But India completely rejected Trump's role, which further enraged him.
Trump is also angry with Russia
Swaroop said that Trump's strategy is not limited to India only. He is also angry with Russian President Vladimir Putin because Putin refused to accept the ceasefire terms agreed with Zelensky in the Ukraine war.
Trump and Putin are scheduled to meet in Alaska on Friday, August 15, where Ukraine and its allies are concerned that the two leaders could dictate the terms of war.
Former ambassador Swarup said Trump's tariffs are a ploy to put pressure on India, but India has proved that it will not bow down to anyone.
He warned that these tariffs will increase inflation in America, the brunt of which will have to be borne by the people there.
