US pressures G7 for 100% tariff on India

Trump urges G7 nations to impose heavy tariffs on India, raising questions about his trade strategy.

No one can predict the statements and actions of US President Donald Trump. Sometimes he imposes tariffs on India and sometimes he calls it a friend. According to the Financial Times, the US has asked the G7 countries to impose tariffs up to 100% on India and China. Earlier, it had also pressurized the European Union.

No one knows what US President Donald Trump will say at one moment and what he will do the next moment. On one hand, Trump imposes 50 percent tariffs on India, while on the other hand, he calls India his true friend. America has always been infamous for such acts.

Now once again, the US has done something similar. According to the Financial Times report, the US has asked the G7 countries to impose tariffs up to 100 percent on India and China. Earlier, it had also pressurized the European Union to do so.

G-7 Finance Ministers to hold a meeting

On Friday, the Finance Ministers of the major G-7 economies will hold a meeting on video call. In this, new proposals prepared by the US in the course of Donald Trump's efforts to reach a peace agreement in Ukraine will be discussed. People familiar with this meeting have claimed that the US will put pressure on the G-7 countries to impose heavy duties on India and China for buying Russian oil.

There is no clear information about how much this duty will be, but it is being said that the US has proposed to impose tariffs between 50 and 100 percent. Earlier, a spokesperson for the US Finance Department had said, 'We had made it clear to our EU allies that if they are serious about ending the war in their country, they will have to impose meaningful duties with us.'

Referring to the G-7, he had said that our G7 partners also need to move with us. Let us tell you that last month the US had increased the tariff on India to 50 percent. While the European Union also buys about a fifth of its gas from Russia.
