You can eat sweets even in diabetes, keep blood sugar under control like this
After getting diabetes, the first thing people think is that now they will have to stay away from sweets completely. Especially for those who are fond of sweets, this becomes even more difficult. But the good thing is that diabetes does not mean that you stop eating sweets. You just have to be a little smart and keep some things in mind.
Here know those 5 important things that you must know before eating sweets in diabetes.
1. Leave plain sugar, use natural sweetener
White sugar i.e. refined sugar can be harmful for diabetes patients. But to eat sweets, you can use natural options like stevia, date syrup, monk fruit or coconut sugar. They taste good and do not increase blood sugar rapidly.
2. Satisfy the craving for sweets with fruits
If you feel like eating sweets, then instead of sugary fruits, eat fruits that have less sugar and more fiber. Like – apple, guava, papaya, pear and berries. These fruits are also sweet and help in keeping sugar under control.
3. Eat homemade sweets instead of market sweets
Market sweets contain a lot of sugar, ghee and fat. In such a situation, it is better that you make light sweets made of stevia or dates at home like oats-dates laddu or barfi made of low-fat milk. This will give taste and will not spoil your health.
4. Take care of fiber and protein while eating sweets
Whenever you eat something sweet, take some nuts like almonds or walnuts with it. Also take protein rich things like curd, cheese or egg along with it. This helps in digesting the sweet slowly and blood sugar does not increase suddenly.
5. Pay special attention to time and quantity
If you are eating sweets, then it is important to know when and how much you are eating. Do not eat sweets on an empty stomach or late at night. A little sweet can be eaten after lunch - like a small laddu or a small bowl of kheer. Remember, this too should be in limited quantity and without refined sugar.
