Digital Desk
The BJP is gearing up to appoint a new national president as JP Nadda's tenure nears its end. With several states already electing new party presidents, the decision on the national leadership is expected soon. The move signals a broader organizational revamp ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday appointed new state presidents in many states. This indicates that the party is soon moving towards the selection of a new president in place of its national president JP Nadda.
According to the BJP constitution, the election of the national president can begin only when the state presidents have been elected in at least 19 out of 37 states. As of Monday, new presidents have been declared in 16 states and on Tuesday this number will cross 19, which will clear the way for the selection process of the national president.
VP Ramalingam in Puducherry and K Bichuwa in Mizoram were made the new state presidents of the party. Only one nomination has been made in Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, due to which their formal election is scheduled on Tuesday. Who got responsibility where
Ramchander Rao in Telangana
PVN Madhav in Andhra Pradesh
MLA Ravindra Chavan in Maharashtra
In Uttarakhand, the current president Mahendra Bhatt will get another chance
State presidents can soon be changed in big states like Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka
Emphasis on caste balance and organization building
The party's firebrand leader T Raja Singh expressed displeasure over the selection of Ramchander Rao in Telangana and resigned. This decision has been taken to balance the tussle in the organization there.
In Andhra Pradesh, Madhav has been made the president in place of former Union Minister and NT Rama Rao's daughter Purandeswari. This decision has been taken with a view to strengthen the organization, because there BJP is an ally of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) but is itself weak from the electoral point of view.
BJP has also taken care of caste balance, Ramchander Rao is a Brahmin while Madhav comes from a backward caste. In Uttarakhand, after Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami (Thakur), now Mahendra Bhatt (Brahmin) has been appointed as the President. In Maharashtra, Ravindra Chavan comes from an influential Maratha community.
