2 terrorists killed in Kupwara: 2nd encounter in 8 days

In an encounter Army killed two terrorists in the Keran sector of Kupwara district in Jammu and Kashmir. These terrorists were reportedly trying to infiltrate at the LoC.

The bodies are lying very close to the LoC. The operation to retrieve the bodies is ongoing amid tight security due to the risk of cross-border firing.

The identity of the slain terrorists and information about their organisation have not yet been revealed.

Second encounter

This is the second encounter between the Army and terrorists in the last 8 days. Earlier on September 20, a soldier was martyred in an encounter with terrorists in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir.

Two policemen, including an SPO, were injured. The encounter took place in the forests of Sojdhar in Dudu-Basantgarh and Bhaderwah of Doda.

Past encounters;-

1-12 August in Kulgam From August 1 to 12, an operation named Operation Akhal was conducted in Kulgam, about 70 kilometres from Srinagar.

A Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist was killed in this operation. He was identified as Haris Dar, a resident of Pulwama.

26 August in the Gurez sector On August 26, two terrorists were killed in an encounter in the Gurez sector of Jammu and Kashmir. One of them was identified as Bagu Khan, who was known as 'Human GPS'.

Security forces had been searching for him for decades as he was involved in more than 100 infiltration attempts since 1995.

September 8 in Kulgam On September 8, 2 soldiers were martyred during Operation Guddar in Kulgam. These included Lance Naik Narendra Sindhu from Kaithal and Para Commando Prabhat Gaur from Uttar Pradesh. Two Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists were killed in this encounter.

One of them was Amir Ahmad Dar, a resident of Shopian, and the other was a foreign terrorist, Rahman Bhai. Amir was associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba and had been active since September 2023. He was also included in the list of 14 terrorists issued by security agencies after the Pahalgam attack.
