Training of officers has started as the Election Commission gears up to conduct SIR in the capital.
After Bihar, now Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists will be done in the national capital Delhi as well. The Delhi Election Commission has started preparations for this. According to officials, this step is being taken with the aim of increasing the accuracy and transparency of the voter list in the capital. Although the formal date of SIR has not been decided yet, the ground level work is in the final stage. The concerned staff is being trained for this process, so that the voter lists can be updated smoothly as soon as the campaign starts. According to the Election Commission, during this revision, eligible new voters will be added, while the names of deceased or transferred voters will be removed. Officials believe that this will help in ensuring transparency and fairness in the upcoming elections.
What preparations are being made?
Officials said that vacancies are being filled in the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) and Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are being trained. Also, the work of reorganizing polling stations and record correction is also going on so that it can be implemented rapidly as soon as the process starts. The Election Commission says that through this revision, not only will eligible new voters be added, but the names of deceased and transferred voters will also be removed. This will remove the flaws in the voter list and will further strengthen transparency and fairness before the next elections.
Lessons from Bihar's experience, expectations increased in Delhi
The special intensive revision conducted recently in Bihar had given rise to political debate. This was the first major campaign after 2003, in which the voter list was reviewed and the total number of voters decreased from 7.9 crores to 7.24 crores. The opposition had alleged that people were being deprived of the right to vote, but the Election Commission clarified that this step was taken only to include eligible citizens and remove ineligible names. This initiative in Delhi is considered important in the direction of updating the voter list and increasing electoral transparency. The Commission believes that this will remove the flaws before the upcoming elections and voters will get better facilities.

Total voters in Delhi and future strategy
The figures of the voter list in Delhi have also been released. According to the Special Summary Revision 2025, there are currently a total of 1,55,24,858 registered voters in the capital. These include 83,49,645 men, 71,73,952 women and 1,261 third gender voters. Officials said that even though no election is scheduled in Delhi at present, it is important to be prepared in time. The Commission believes that this initiative will remove the flaws before the upcoming elections and voters will get better facilities.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has also made it clear that it considers the Election Commission a constitutional authority and has considered the process of SIR in Bihar as legal. The bench of Justice Suryakant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi also clarified that the decision given on Bihar will be applicable for SIR across the country.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has also clarified that the Election Commission is a constitutional authority and the court cannot stop it from conducting SIR. The bench of Justice Suryakant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi said that the decision given on Bihar will be applicable for SIR in the whole country. However, the court also added that if illegality is found in the functioning of the commission in any stage of SIR in Bihar, then the entire process can be cancelled. It is worth noting that the Election Commission has announced to start this exercise in the whole country.
