Cheetahs Adapt to India on Anniversary of Kuno Release

The cheetahs in Kuno have now become ‘desi’, adjusting well to India’s air and water—marking the day PM Modi released them into the wild.

The Cheetah Rehabilitation Project has completed three years. The reintroduction of cheetahs to the country after 70 years was inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi himself on September 17, 2022, in Kuno National Park in Sheopur district, Madhya Pradesh. In the first phase, eight cheetahs were brought from Namibia and released by the Prime Minister into the park's enclosure. In the second phase, 12 cheetahs were brought from South Africa and released here.
