Centre Boosts UG & PG Medical Seats to Strengthen Healthcare

The central government has significantly increased undergraduate and postgraduate medical seats to promote medical education. The goal is to address the shortage of doctors and improve healthcare access across the country.

To boost medical education and research in India, the Union Cabinet has approved 5,000 new postgraduate and 5,023 MBBS seats in government institutions. The Department of Scientific and Industrial Research's Capacity Building Scheme has also been approved. Prime Minister Modi described it as a game-changer for the health and research sector.

In addition, the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research's (DSIR) Capacity Building and Human Resource Development Scheme has been approved with an outlay of ₹2,277 crore.

These steps are a strong step towards increasing the number of skilled doctors and researchers in the country. They will propel India towards becoming a global leader in health and research.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi described these decisions as game-changers for the country's health and research sector. He said that expanding medical education will ensure the availability of skilled doctors in every corner of the country, while the DSIR scheme will promote a culture of innovation and excellence.
