Ahmedabad Air India Crash: Families Allege Compensation Lapses, Airline Responds

The controversy that started with the Ahmedabad Air India plane crash is not leaving Air India. Be it the cancellation of many international flights or emergency landing of flights due to technical faults.

Air India is constantly in the headlines. Now once again the airline company is in the headlines. Actually, the families of the passengers who lost their lives in the Ahmedabad plane crash have made serious allegations regarding compensation.

Actually, Air India has sent such questionnaires to the victim families which include legal terms without any explanation. Such as - economic dependence or survivor beneficiary etc. Important information has been sought from the family in legal form. Relatives of the deceased say that this can be used against them only.

Meanwhile, Air India has denied the allegations on the process of giving compensation to the passengers after the Ahmedabad flight crash. The airline said that the questionnaire given to the families of the deceased was only to confirm the family relations so that the temporary payment could go to the right beneficiaries. Air India has said that the allegations being made against them regarding compensation are baseless. The purpose of the questionnaire given by them was merely to confirm family relations.

Air India further said that these are some formal procedures, which are necessary to be followed. But we are engaged in helping the victim families in every possible way. The aviation company also clarified that the form can be submitted through e-mail or in person. No visit will be made to the house without invitation. Different teams have been formed, which are helping the families of the victims in funeral, accommodation and other arrangements. The company has said that so far advance payment has been made to 47 families. The process of making payment to 55 families is going on.

UK-based legal firm Stuarts, which is representing more than 40 victim families, claims that such questionnaires have been sent by Air India which are pressurizing the families to give financial details legally. Peter Ninan, a partner at Stewarts, criticized Air India and said that the victim families have been sent questionnaires that include legal terms without any explanation. Such as - economic dependency or survivor beneficiary etc. Important information was sought from the family in legal form, in which words with legal definitions were used. Later this information can be used against them. They should be ashamed of this, we are all shocked by this.
