Appeal for Peace in West Bengal: CM Mamata Banerjee Accuses BJP and RSS of Inciting Communal Tensions
JAGRAN DESK
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has called for peace and unity among residents of the state, while strongly accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its ideological ally Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) of attempting to incite communal unrest for political gain. She alleged that certain “external forces” are exploiting recent unfortunate incidents in the state to polarize communities ahead of the elections.
“BJP Plotting to Stoke Riots,” Says Mamata Banerjee
In a pointed statement, Banerjee remarked:
“The BJP and its affiliates have suddenly become aggressive. They are trying to divide society to reap electoral benefits under their ‘divide and rule’ strategy. But the people of Bengal are not so easily swayed.”
She added that the state government is taking firm action against those attempting to disrupt harmony. So far, two police officers have been removed from duty, and an investigation is actively underway.
CM’s Message: “Care for Each Other, Don’t Be Misled”
The Chief Minister appealed to both majority and minority communities to remain united and preserve the social fabric of Bengal. She urged:
“Let’s take care of one another. We must not allow ourselves to be provoked into creating divisions within society.”
Villagers Protest Governor’s Visit
In a separate development, residents of Betbona village in Murshidabad expressed frustration when Governor C.V. Ananda Bose's convoy passed through the area without addressing them. In response, villagers staged a road blockade. The situation prompted the Governor to return, where he later engaged with the villagers, listening to their concerns.
Demand for BSF Camp Gains Momentum
The villagers appealed for a permanent Border Security Force (BSF) camp to ensure safety in the region. Governor Bose assured them that their request would be taken seriously, and emphasized that maintaining law and order across the state remains a top priority.
