Entrepreneur and social worker Rana Suryawanshi, who has created employment opportunities for thousands of youths in Maharashtra and made a significant impact through his social initiatives, was recently targeted in a deadly assault.
Police suspect that the attack could be linked to his extensive social work in Gadchiroli over the past several years.
Rana Suryawanshi was on a business visit to Solapur in connection with a sugar factory he recently acquired. While returning from Akkalkot, his vehicle was ambushed by armed attackers carrying pistols and sharp weapons. The assailants arrived in a Bolero jeep (registration number MH 42 24 29).
According to police, four individuals were involved in the attack:
-
Sachin Lalu Rathod (Mulegaon Tanda, Solapur)
-
Akash Madhukar Chavan and Krishna Phulchand Pawar (both from Wajji Canal Tanda)
-
Avinash Shivaji Rathod (Bakshi Hipparga Tanda)
Speaking to the media, Special Inspector General of Police Sunil Phulari said he is closely monitoring the investigation. Solapur (Rural) Superintendent of Police Atul Kulkarni added, "We are conducting a thorough inquiry into this incident and examining if any new aspects emerge from the case."
This is not the first attempt on Rana Suryawanshi’s life due to his social work. For over fifteen years, he has been recognized for his initiatives in both industry and social service across the state. Police believe that his growing influence in these areas may have prompted the attack.
A case was registered at Akkalkot Police Station based on a complaint filed by constable Waman Pise, who was with Suryawanshi during the incident. Initially, one accused was arrested, and now the remaining three have also been taken into custody.
The diligence and prompt action shown by Solapur (Rural) SP Atul Kulkarni and Special IGP Sunil Phulari in investigating the case and apprehending the accused are being widely appreciated.
