Bypolls for Two Assembly Seats in J&K on Nov 11: Omar Abdullah Faces Rising Dissent Within Party
Digital Desk
Political pressure is mounting on Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, as internal discord deepens within the National Conference (NC) and tensions grow with its ally, the Congress. The Congress leadership has expressed dissatisfaction, accusing the NC government of excluding it from key policy decisions and undermining the spirit of their alliance.
AICC General Secretary Shah Nawaz Chaudhary cautioned that unless the NC changes its approach, the Congress may be compelled to reconsider the partnership. Meanwhile, the opposition has also intensified its criticism of the government.
PDP MLA Waheed Para said, “It has been a year since Omar came to power, but the public has seen no major progress.” Omar Abdullah had taken oath as Chief Minister on October 16, 2024. The political mood now heats up ahead of by-elections scheduled for November 11, 2025, for the Budgam and Nagrota assembly seats.
Rising Discontent in the National Conference
Internal rifts within the NC have become more visible. MP Aga Ruhullah openly questioned both the government’s performance and the party’s direction, urging introspection. “The public is angry with us. We must admit that we have not fulfilled our promises,” he said, adding that the Chief Minister should focus on the matters within his control.
Senior NC leader Mian Altaf also voiced concern over widening divisions in the party, while his son remarked that the administration under the Lieutenant Governor’s rule was more effective — a statement reflecting the growing unease within Omar Abdullah’s ranks.
