Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday reiterated his allegations of vote theft, accusing the Election Commission of being a "watchman" who "stayed awake, saw the theft, and protected the thieves."
Speaking at a press conference, Rahul said, "Wake up at 4 AM, erase 2 voters in 36 seconds, go back to sleep that’s how vote theft was done!" He urged the youth, students, and the Gen Z of the country to protect the Constitution, democracy, and stop the vote theft.
Rahul cited the example of the 2023 Karnataka Aland constituency polls, alleging an attempt to delete 6,018 voter names from the voter list. He highlighted that a fake login using the ID of a 63-year-old woman, Godabai, was used to delete 12 names without the knowledge of the affected voters. Rahul also alleged that mobile numbers from outside Karnataka were used to remove voters from the list. He criticized Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar for shielding the "vote thieves," mentioning that the Karnataka CID sent 18 reminders to the Election Commission seeking critical data related to IP addresses, device ports, and OTP trails but received no response.
The Election Commission called Rahul's allegations "false and baseless," adding that no ordinary citizen can delete a vote online without due process.
Responding sharply, Union Minister Giriraj Singh accused Rahul Gandhi of frustration and trying to become an "urban Naxal," alleging that Rahul's statements aim to push the country into a civil war. BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, who was in charge of the Aland elections, said that if vote theft had occurred, the Congress should thank the Election Commission as Congress won the seat for the first time since independence. MP Ravi Shankar Prasad accused Rahul of lying and harming the dignity of the Leader of Opposition post.
Rahul Gandhi also claimed that vote deletions were done centrally through software targeting the first voter in the booth, adding that after exposing vote theft, Prime Minister Modi would have difficulty facing the people.
