Congress Leaders Rebuke Digvijaya Singh Over RSS Praise, Party Marks 141st Foundation Day

Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh sparked sharp criticism within his party after posting on X Saturday, appearing to praise the RSS-BJP's organisational strength, prompting rebukes and clarifications amid celebrations of the Congress’s 141st Foundation Day.
Singh shared an old photo of Prime Minister Narendra Modi seated near BJP veteran LK Advani at an RSS event, writing that it showcased the "power of Sanghatan" in elevating a grassroots worker to national leadership. The post, using "Sanghatan" instead of "Sangathan," was seen by analysts as a deliberate nod to the RSS's influence, igniting controversy.
Congress MP Manickam Tagore slammed the remarks, posting a football "self-goal" clip on X with the caption, "Famous self-goal. We have one," rejecting any lessons from "Godse’s organisation" except hatred. Conversely, MP Shashi Tharoor took a nuanced stance, suggesting the RSS’s discipline offers learning potential for any organisation.
Party president Mallikarjun Kharge, speaking at a Foundation Day event at Indira Bhawan, indirectly countered Singh by accusing the RSS-BJP of undermining the Constitution and national symbols over the past 11 years. Sachin Pilot downplayed internal rifts, insisting the Congress remains united despite differing opinions.
Singh later clarified he remains a staunch RSS critic, claiming his post was misconstrued. He had earlier urged the party to adopt BJP-style booth-level strategies during a Congress Working Committee meeting.
The controversy unfolded as Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi hoisted the party flag to mark the Congress’s founding in 1885. The episode highlights ongoing tensions over strategy and messaging as the party seeks to strengthen its grassroots presence.
Analysts warn such public spats could undermine Congress’s unity ahead of key electoral battles.
