Demand to Declare ‘Researcher Day’ or ‘Scientist Day’; Raghunath Yemul Guruji Appeals to the Government on Dr. Homi Bhabha’s Death Anniversary

On the death anniversary of Dr. Homi Jehangir Bhabha, the architect of India’s atomic energy programme and a visionary scientist, a renewed demand was raised to declare a dedicated ‘Researcher Day’ or ‘Scientist Day’ to honour the nation’s scientific community.

Raghunath Yemul Guruji, Founder and Chairman of Researchers and Naturally Clever Human Organisation (RANCHO) and the Divyang Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DICCAI), appealed to the government to officially recognise the invaluable contribution of researchers and scientists by declaring a national day in their honour.

He stated that India has been fortunate to have legendary scientists such as Dr. Homi Jehangir Bhabha and Dr. C. V. Raman, whose pioneering work laid the foundation of the country’s scientific and technological advancement.

Expressing gratitude towards such stalwarts, he said, is essential to inspire future generations of researchers.

Dr. Homi Jehangir Bhabha is regarded as the chief architect of India’s atomic research and nuclear energy programme. He played a key role in establishing the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) and the Atomic Energy Commission, and strongly advocated the peaceful use of atomic energy. Under his leadership, India developed a robust scientific infrastructure that paved the way for advancements in nuclear research, power generation and strategic science.

Raghunath Yemul Guruji highlighted that research is a long and demanding process involving dedication, sacrifice and perseverance. Every facility, technology and innovation available in society today is the result of sustained research efforts. While the country observes days dedicated to children, teachers, doctors and engineers, there is no exclusive national day to acknowledge the contribution of researchers and scientists.

He further noted that RANCHO and DICCAI have been consistently observing ‘Researcher Day’ or ‘Scientist Day’ since 2013. Through this initiative, the organisations have been working to promote scientific thinking, research culture and innovation, while motivating young researchers across the country.

RANCHO’s ‘Research India Research’ initiative aims to encourage scientific temper, experimentation and innovation among students through interactive learning methods. DICCAI, under the vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’, continues to support individuals working in the fields of research and innovation. The organisations have urged the government to positively consider the proposal and accord national recognition to researchers and scientists.
