Dr. K.A. Paul Raises Alarm Over ₹8 Crore Tax Notice, Calls It Political Harassment
Digital Desk
Global humanitarian and peace advocate Dr. K.A. Paul has strongly criticized the Income Tax Department’s recent notice demanding ₹8 crore in interest from the Ancient Patron Pentecostal Church Society, issuing a five-day deadline for compliance.
He described the move as a targeted and unjust attack, noting that the matter is already pending before the Andhra Pradesh High Court.
Selective Scrutiny Sparks Controversy
Dr. Paul emphasized that the Church Society, a registered charitable organization, is legally exempt from income tax and has spent over 40 years serving orphans, widows, and underprivileged communities. He questioned why, unlike other institutions that have received tax condonations for delays spanning decades, his organization faces aggressive enforcement after just six years.
He linked the notice to his advocacy efforts for farmers, youth, and women, as well as his recent campaign to ban betting apps in August 2025, suggesting possible political motives behind the timing.
Political Vendetta Allegations
Dr. Paul accused political actors in Andhra Pradesh of attempting to derail his upcoming candidacy in Jubilee Hills. “This is a deliberate effort to silence voices fighting for the people,” he said, highlighting systemic disparities where corporate debts worth over ₹15 lakh crore are waived, yet humanitarian initiatives face harsh scrutiny.
Legal Action Against Defamation
Responding to a defamation complaint filed on September 21, 2025, Dr. Paul reaffirmed his commitment to legal action to ensure accurate media coverage. “Those spreading falsehoods will be held accountable,” he asserted.
Call for Citizen Mobilization and Protests
Dr. Paul called upon the citizens of Jubilee Hills to stand against corruption and politically motivated harassment. “I have defended democracy, secularism, and the economy—from saving Vizag Steel Plant to championing farmers, women, and the unemployed. I will not bow to intimidation,” he said.
He demanded that the Income Tax Commissioner retract the notice within five days, warning that he would stage peaceful protests, including an indefinite fast, if justice is delayed. Dr. Paul drew parallels with a 2007 tax harassment incident, when a ₹22 crore claim was made against his organization under politically motivated circumstances.
“My life’s mission is to serve the marginalized and fight injustice. No intimidation can stop me. I urge all citizens to support this battle for fairness,” Dr. Paul concluded.
