India Resumes Tourist Visas for Chinese Nationals After 5-Year Freeze

India will start issuing tourist visas to Chinese citizens from July 24, ending a five-year suspension imposed during the COVID-19 pandemic and after the Galwan clash in 2020.

The Indian Embassy in Beijing confirmed the move on social media platform Weibo, stating that Chinese travelers can apply online, schedule appointments, and submit documents at visa centers in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou.

Tourist visas were halted in 2020, and ties soured after border tensions in Ladakh. The decision comes amid signs of rapprochement, including troop withdrawals, resumption of direct flights, and plans for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra in 2025.
