Kejriwal Launches Gujarat Tour with Call to End BJP Rule, Set to Join Farmers' Protest

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal commenced a two-day visit to Gujarat on Wednesday, aiming to strengthen the party’s position in the state ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. He is accompanied by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

As part of his visit, Kejriwal will participate in a farmers’ Mahapanchayat in Modasa at 1 PM and later address a public rally in Dediapada. His speech will focus on supporting local farmers and dairy producers demanding fair milk procurement prices. The visit also comes amid mounting tensions between AAP and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Gujarat following a police lathi charge on protesting farmers, which reportedly resulted in the death of a farmer.

Kejriwal's latest trip follows a previous visit on July 2–3, during which he launched AAP's state-wide membership drive in Ahmedabad. In a social media post ahead of his current tour, Kejriwal accused the BJP of misgovernance and authoritarianism, citing the arrest of AAP leader Chaitar Vasava for allegedly exposing corruption within the state. “The BJP's 30 years of arrogance and misrule must end,” he wrote.

He further asserted, “The Aam Aadmi Party is capable of liberating the nation from the BJP’s grip. Our significant electoral successes in Punjab and Gujarat reflect public trust in AAP's model of governance. The people of Gujarat are now seeking change.”

The AAP is encouraged by its recent electoral performance in Gujarat, where it made notable gains. The party’s Gopal Italia secured victory from the Visadwar seat, underscoring AAP’s expanding influence in the region. In recognition of its twin victories in Punjab and Gujarat, the party held a celebratory event at Kapurthala House in Delhi, the official residence of the Punjab Chief Minister.

According to Kejriwal, AAP's growing presence is a sign that it is emerging as the most viable national alternative to the BJP. With both Gujarat and Punjab set to hold assembly elections in 2027, the Aam Aadmi Party is intensifying its efforts to position itself as a formidable challenger to the BJP’s long-standing dominance in Gujarat.
