Monsoon session disrupted, heavy loss to Parliament’s productivity

Uproar in the Monsoon session led to only 31% work completion in Lok Sabha and 38% in Rajya Sabha. As a result, ₹204 crore of public money was wasted, raising concerns over parliamentary efficiency.

Due to the uproar of the opposition during the monsoon session, valuable time of the Parliament was wasted. MPs had to work for 120 hours in Lok Sabha, but only 37 hours of work was done and the remaining 83 hours were lost to uproar. The same was the case with Rajya Sabha, where instead of 120 hours, only 47 hours of work was done and 73 hours were wasted. Overall, MPs wasted more time in their politics than in the interest of the country.

How much money of the public was wasted?
There was no work for 83 hours in Lok Sabha, due to which about Rs 124 crore 50 lakh of public money was wasted. At the same time, about Rs 80 crore was lost due to the waste of 73 hours in Rajya Sabha. That is, a total of Rs 204 crore 50 lakh was wasted in both the houses. This money could have been spent on public works, but was wasted due to uproar and politics.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed disappointment over the lack of proper functioning in the monsoon session of Parliament. He said that the young and talented MPs of Congress are unable to participate in the discussions due to the insecurity of their leadership. According to sources, PM Modi said this in an informal meeting held in the chamber of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, in which leaders of various parties were called. This meeting took place after the proceedings of the Lok Sabha were adjourned indefinitely. However, the leaders of the opposition parties did not attend this meeting.
