NDA Tensions Surface in Bihar: BJP Relinquishes Kahalgaon & Karakat Seats to JDU Amid Nitish’s Displeasure; Alliance Leaders to Hold Joint Press Meet Today

Despite a seat-sharing agreement within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), tensions continue to simmer in Bihar, particularly over the allocation of the Kahalgaon and Karakat assembly seats. The situation escalated when Baghalpur MP voiced displeasure, submitting his resignation to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over the contentious Kahalgaon seat.

In a strategic move aimed at preserving alliance harmony, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided to step aside from both Kahalgaon and Karakat, allowing the Janata Dal United (JDU) to contest these key seats.

Although the NDA has reached a broad consensus on seat distribution, sources inside the alliance suggest that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar remains dissatisfied with the allocation of nine specific seats. JDU leaders have formally requested BJP to reconsider the seat-sharing arrangement, seeking adjustments in the final list. To address these concerns, Nitish Kumar convened a critical two-hour meeting at the CM House, gathering feedback from senior JDU figures including Sanjay Jha, Lalan Singh, and Vijay Chaudhary. The CM directed his team to resolve the matter swiftly by communicating with senior BJP leaders.

Earlier, Nitish Kumar personally met with top BJP leaders at his residence, following up with one-on-one discussions with key party members to expedite the seat finalization process. The alliance’s internal challenges have sparked speculation that Union Home Minister Amit Shah may visit Patna to hold discussions and defuse potential discord, although official confirmation of the visit is still awaited.

Despite reports of friction, JDU leaders remain optimistic. Sanjay Jha, JDU National Executive President, stated that Nitish Kumar is satisfied and will actively campaign for the NDA. Senior party leader Samrat Chaudhary has also denied any lingering conflict within the coalition. Anticipation is growing for a joint NDA press conference later this evening, which could provide clarity and reaffirm unity ahead of the crucial elections.
