Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday visited Sri Krishna Matha, Udupi, offering prayers and inaugurating the Golden Tirtha Mandap. He also offered a golden Kalash (urn) at the temple. Modi participated in a mass Bhagavad Gita recital with one lakh devotees, calling it a powerful spiritual experience.

The Prime Minister reached Udupi around 11 a.m. and held a 3-km roadshow from the airport, greeted by enthusiastic crowds.

Later in the evening, PM Modi will travel to Goa to inaugurate a 77-feet bronze statue of Lord Ram at the Shree Sansthan Gokarna Jivottam Math, Canacona. Designed by noted sculptor Ram Sutar, the artist behind the Statue of Unity, it is promoted as the world’s tallest statue of Lord Ram. Modi will also release a commemorative postage stamp and coin during the event.

Highlights from Udupi Visit

PM Modi said Udupi holds “special significance” in his life.

He recalled that Udupi laid the foundation for a new governance model by electing VS Acharya (Jana Sangh) in 1968.

Modi underlined the spiritual connection between Gujarat and Udupi, linking the vigraha worship here to Mata Rukmini of Dwarka.

On the Gita recitation, he said the vibrations created by one lakh people chanting together build “new power for the mind and spirit.”

On national security, he reiterated that the Gita teaches the defeat of tyranny, adding that “earlier governments didn’t retaliate after terror attacks, but this is the new India.”
