Punjab DIG hid gold and cash

Punjab Police DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar had concealed cash and gold in multiple locations within his Chandigarh residence. Sources connected to the CBI team that conducted the raid revealed that the DIG had hidden cash inside his bed.
Additional cash was stored in the lower section of a locked crockery cabinet, while gold was found in two separate wardrobes. The valuables were arranged to avoid suspicion from the outside.
Despite a monthly salary of around ₹2.64 lakh, Bhullar’s assets indicated a luxury lifestyle. At his Samrala farmhouse in Ludhiana, the CBI also recovered several bottles of expensive liquor, some priced above ₹50,000 each.
Arrest of DIG and Agent Krishnu
The CBI arrested DIG Bhullar along with his agent Krishnu on October 16. Krishnu was first apprehended in Sector-21 while accepting an ₹8 lakh bribe from Mandi Gobindgarh scrap dealer Akash Batra. Following this, the CBI intercepted the DIG and caught him red-handed.
It is alleged that Krishnu identified potential bribery targets for Bhullar and acted as his private aide. On Friday, both Bhullar and Krishnu were presented in Chandigarh Special CBI Court and sent to 14 days of judicial custody.
Items Recovered from Bhullar’s House
At Bhullar’s Sector-40 residence, CBI recovered cash totaling ₹7.5 crore. Tables were insufficient to hold the bundles of ₹500 notes, so the cash was spread on mats for counting. Machines were used to assist in the process. The DIG’s collection also included Rolex and Rado watches, priced between ₹2 lakh to ₹5 lakh each, as well as documents for 50 properties and keys to bank lockers.
In addition to cash and gold, about two and a half kilograms of gold were found in the house. At his Samrala farmhouse, authorities recovered 108 bottles of liquor, many costing more than ₹50,000 each.
DIG Bhullar’s Statement
During his appearance in Chandigarh CBI Court, Bhullar claimed that all allegations against him were false. He said, 'All allegations are false, they will prove this in court. The court will deliver justice. I will answer everything. I didn’t even have that case. Who am I to demand?'
