Rajnath Singh Pays Tribute on Police Commemoration Day:

On the occasion of Police Commemoration Day, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh paid tribute to fallen police personnel at the National Police Memorial in New Delhi on Tuesday morning.

 

Reflecting on his experience as both former Home Minister and now Defence Minister, Singh said he has closely observed the work of both the police and the armed forces.

"Whether the threat comes from across the border or emerges from within, those who protect India do so with the same spirit and dedication. Their platforms may differ, but their mission is the same—national security," Singh stated.


"Police Will Play a Key Role in Building India of 2047"

Rajnath Singh emphasized the critical role of police in the vision for a developed India by 2047. He said the police and society are interdependent, and there must be mutual accountability between citizens and law enforcement.

"The police aren't just fighting crime; they're also tackling public perception. Today, crime includes not just theft but also cybercrimes and digital fraud. A strong police force is vital for a strong nation,” he said.


"The Uniform Symbolizes Service"

Singh acknowledged that police efforts had long gone unrecognized, but highlighted that this changed under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who inaugurated the National Police Memorial in 2018.

He added that police now have access to modern infrastructure and facilities and reiterated that the uniform should always represent service to the nation.

Singh concluded his speech by extending Diwali greetings to all present.


Significance of Police Commemoration Day

October 21 is observed annually as Police Commemoration Day in honor of 10 brave policemen who were killed during an ambush by Chinese forces at Hot Springs, Ladakh, in 1959.

In memory of their sacrifice, the National Police Memorial was established in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi, and was formally inaugurated in 2018 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
