BJP Rejects Rahul Gandhi’s Voter Fraud Claims, Kiren Rijiju Calls Allegations ‘Fake'

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday dismissed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s allegations of voter manipulation, calling them “fake” and a diversionary tactic ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections.

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Rijiju targeted Rahul Gandhi’s recent claims of voter list irregularities in Haryana, saying the Congress leader was attempting to create excuses for potential defeat. “The presentation Rahul Gandhi gave was fake. He mentioned the names of some foreign women in his press conference,” Rijiju said, adding that Rahul Gandhi’s overseas visits to Thailand and Cambodia during parliamentary sessions wasted public time and undermined his credibility.

Rijiju also mocked Rahul’s dramatic warnings of an impending “atom bomb,” questioning why it “never explodes.” He defended the Election Commission and the ongoing State Information Registry (SIR) voter purification process, emphasizing that exit and opinion polls are inherently fallible in a democracy. “We did not abuse the EC even when we lost. What the SIR is doing now is voter purification, and people are happy with it. Only Rahul is crying,” he said.

The minister highlighted the legal remedies available for electoral irregularities, noting that all parties have polling agents and observers. He criticized Rahul Gandhi for allegedly undermining India’s image abroad and said the Congress leader’s actions did not reflect responsible opposition conduct. “During Congress rule, governments appointed judges themselves, yet we never questioned democracy. But Rahul goes abroad and insults our system,” Rijiju remarked.

Rahul Gandhi had earlier accused the BJP and the Election Commission of manipulating voter lists, citing alleged deletions in Haryana ahead of elections in Bihar. The BJP, however, maintains that India’s electoral system remains robust and transparent.

As Bihar prepares for its multi-phase Assembly polls, the dispute over voter integrity has intensified political rhetoric, with both parties seeking to consolidate their positions ahead of the first phase of voting.
