Shiv Nadar Tops India’s Philanthropy List Again; Donates Rs 7.4 Crore Daily, Ambani Ranks Second

HCL Technologies founder Shiv Nadar has once again been named India’s top philanthropist, according to the EdelGive-Hurun India Philanthropy List 2025 released on Friday. Nadar donated ₹2,708 crore in the past year an average of ₹7.4 crore every day continuing his consistent record as the nation’s leading donor.

Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani secured the second spot with total contributions of ₹1,309 crore under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), while the Bajaj Group ranked third. Gautam Adani stood fifth on the list. Collectively, India’s 191 wealthiest individuals donated Rs10,380 crore in 2024–25.

Among women philanthropists, Rohini Nilekani, wife of Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani, topped with donations worthRs204 crore. Biocon Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw followed with Rs83 crore. Zerodha founders Nikhil and Nitin Kamat emerged as the youngest major donors, contributing Rs147 crore, while Binnie Bansal of Flipkart donated Rs18 crore.

The Nadar family also led individual donations, personally contributing Rs2,537 crore, followed by Nandan and Rohini Nilekani, who donated Rs356 crore andRs199 crore respectively. Infosys co-founders and their families together contributed over Rs850 crore—marking the largest philanthropic effort linked to a single corporate entity.

Several professional managers also made notable personal contributions, including former L&T Chairman A.M. Naik (Rs54 crore), Amit and Archana Chandra (Rs47 crore), and venture capitalists Prashant and Amita Prakash (Rs17 crore).

Shiv Nadar, 79, founder and Chairman Emeritus of HCL Technologies and the Shiv Nadar Foundation, is ranked 52nd on the Forbes Real-Time Billionaires List with a net worth of $34.4 billion (Rs 2.99 lakh crore). He established HCL in 1976, now employing over 2.27 lakh people globally.

Nadar’s sustained philanthropy underscores the growing culture of giving among India’s business leaders, with education and healthcare emerging as top causes for social investment.
