Shivraj Singh Chouhan Urges Indians to Learn a South Indian Language for National Unity

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday advocated that every Indian should learn at least one South Indian language, describing linguistic diversity as a vital force for strengthening national unity and fostering deeper mutual understanding.

Speaking at a large farmers' symposium organised by the Isha Foundation in Hosur, Chouhan revealed he is personally learning a South Indian language to bridge regional connections.

"Linguistic diversity is our strength," he told the gathering, alongside spiritual leader Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev. "Learning each other's languages builds stronger bonds across the country."

The minister praised the foundation's tree-based agriculture initiatives, announcing that the Centre is exploring a new national policy inspired by its model. He said such practices protect the environment while boosting farmers' incomes.

Chouhan highlighted the Isha Foundation's role in promoting regenerative farming under Sadhguru's guidance, emphasising its potential to restore soil health and involve farmers in conservation.

He endorsed the 'Save Soil' campaign, stressing that healthy soil is essential for food security and climate stability.

Sadhguru, addressing the event, called for removing excessive regulations on farming. He insisted farmers must have full freedom over crops grown on their land and urged clearer distinctions between agricultural produce and forest resources.

The two leaders planted a sapling together, symbolising commitment to environmental efforts.

Chouhan's remarks come amid ongoing discussions on cultural integration and regional harmony. By encouraging language learning, he framed it as a practical step toward emotional unity in a multilingual nation.

The symposium drew thousands of farmers, underscoring growing interest in sustainable agriculture amid soil degradation concerns.
