Target of March 2026: NSG deployed for the first time in Gadchiroli for anti-Naxal operation

The National Security Guard (NSG) has been deployed in Gadchiroli, Maharashtra for anti-Naxal operation in the area. This is the first time the elite force has been involved in such operations in the area. It is noteworthy that Gadchiroli in the Vidarbha region of the state is one of the Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected areas of the country.

The NSG, known for its expertise in counter-terrorism and high-risk operations, has been deployed to bring a new level of tactical capability to anti-Naxal efforts in Gadchiroli. According to officials, this deployment is expected to strengthen the existing security mechanism and increase the effectiveness of operations against Naxalite groups in the area.

12 Naxalites surrender in Gadchiroli

Earlier on June 6, 12 hardcore Naxalites surrendered by laying down their arms in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Gadchiroli district. All of them collectively had a bounty of over Rs one crore on their heads. Speaking to reporters on the occasion, the chief minister said the surrender of the Naxalites shows that they have lost faith in this illegal movement.

Fadnavis visited the remote Kawande village on the Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh border, it was reported. He is the first chief minister to visit this remote Naxal-affected area. During the visit, 12 dreaded Naxalites surrendered by laying down their ultra-modern weapons. It was said that the chief minister presented them a copy of the Constitution and symbolised their return to the mainstream. Fadnavis announced that in the last 18 months, 28 Maoists were killed, 31 arrested and 44 surrendered, which is a record. He declared, "Naxalism will be eradicated by March 2026."
