YouTuber had to pay heavily for making objectionable comments against SC judge; Supreme Court gave a big order
A Chandigarh YouTuber had made objectionable comments against a Supreme Court judge in his video. The Supreme Court has now taken suo motu cognizance of the matter and initiated a contempt case against the YouTuber.
A vacation bench of Chief Justice of India BR Gavai, Justice AG Masih and Justice AS Chandurkar has restrained the YouTube channel from publishing the video and ordered YouTuber Ajay Shukla to remove the objectionable post. The next hearing in the case has been scheduled for July.
The Supreme Court said, "Such scandalous allegations published widely are likely to harm the reputation of the prestigious institution of the judiciary."
The court said, "There is no doubt that the Constitution guarantees freedom of expression. But, this freedom is subject to reasonable restrictions and no person can be allowed to make such allegations which are in the nature of defaming the judge of the court and are also contemptuous." The vacation bench of the Supreme Court asked Attorney General of India R. Venkataramani and Solicitor General Tushar Mehta to assist the court in this matter.
