Zubeen Garg Death Rumours: 22 Days On, 7 Arrested, 11 Summoned as Assam Police Probe Continues

It’s been more than three weeks since rumours about singer Zubeen Garg’s alleged death in Singapore flooded social media, yet the Assam Police remain without concrete answers. Despite multiple arrests and summons, the investigation has not yielded any verified link behind the false news.
According to reports, the fake information claimed that Zubeen Garg had passed away in Singaporea piece of misinformation that spread rapidly, triggering shock and confusion among his fans across Northeast India.
Soon after, the singer himself appeared on social media to clarify that he was healthy and residing in Mumbai, urging people not to believe the rumours.
Assam Police promptly launched an investigation to trace the source of the fake news. Over the past 22 days, seven individuals have been arrested, and eleven others have been summoned for questioning in different parts of the state. However, officials admit that the primary source of the disinformation remains unidentified.
The investigation is being carried out by the state’s Cyber Crime Cell in coordination with local police units. Preliminary findings suggest that manipulated posts and screenshots were circulated widely on platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp, and X (formerly Twitter), adding to the mystery around the incident.
Police officials have reiterated that spreading unverified news or false claims about public figures could lead to strict cybercrime charges. They also appealed to social media users to authenticate any such reports before sharing them.
Meanwhile, Zubeen Garg continues engaging in new musical projects and public appearances, further confirming that the rumours were baseless. Fans and netizens have called for stronger digital monitoring mechanisms to prevent such misinformation in the future.
