Two Congress MLAs Sentenced to One Year in 11-Year-Old Case

 Two Congress MLAs from Rajasthan have been sentenced to one year each in an 11-year-old criminal case. The verdict has stirred political debates, with the opposition questioning the party's stand on accountability and ethics in public life.

The District Court of Jaipur has sentenced nine people, including two Congress MLAs, to one year each in an 11-year-old case. This case is of 13 August 2014, when JLN Marg was blocked for about 20 minutes outside the main gate of Rajasthan University. The ACJM-19 court of Jaipur Metropolitan First found all the accused guilty of blocking the road and unlawful assembly.

The court also convicted Ladnun MLA Mukesh Bhakar, Shahpura MLA Manish Yadav and Abhishek Chaudhary, who was the Congress candidate from Jhotwara Assembly, as well as Rajesh Meena, Ravi Kirad, Wasim Khan, Dron Yadav, Bhanupratap Singh and Vidyadhar Meel. Prosecution officer Kavita Pingolia said that the police had presented the challan in this case on 11 August 2016. After a long trial, the court sentenced all the nine accused.

According to the incident, on 13 August 2014, JLN Marg was blocked during a demonstration outside the main gate of Rajasthan University. Due to this jam, common people had to face a lot of trouble. The police took action in this case and registered a case against all the accused. During the trial in the court, the prosecution proved the involvement of the accused on the basis of evidence and witnesses.

Accused released on bail

After the sentence was pronounced, the court released all the accused on bail. The accused have been given one month's time to file an appeal against this decision of the court. They can file a petition in the Rajasthan High Court to postpone or cancel the sentence.
