The Supreme Court has ordered the West Bengal government to clear 25% of pending dearness allowance (DA) dues to state employees within three months. This comes after prolonged demands and legal battles by government staff seeking parity with central pay scales.

The Supreme Court has ordered the West Bengal government to provide 25 percent dearness allowance (DA) to the state employees. This order has been pronounced by a bench headed by Justice Sanjay Karol, in which the court has made it clear that this payment should be made within 3 months. The next hearing of the case is scheduled in August. Currently, West Bengal employees are getting about 18 percent DA, while recently the Mamata government had announced to increase it by 4 percent in the budget. If compared to the DA of central government employees, it is 55 percent, which shows a significant difference for the state employees.
West Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari shared a post on the social media platform 'X' reacting to the recent decision of the Supreme Court. He welcomed the direction by Supreme Court Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice Sandeep Mehta to the West Bengal government to immediately pay 25 percent arrears of dearness allowance to the employees.
Suvendu Adhikari said that this decision is an important victory for the employees of the West Bengal government. These employees were fighting against the harsh policies and injustice of the state government for a long time, which first reached the tribunal and then the Supreme Court. The BJP-affiliated Karamchari Parishad (Nationalist West Bengal Government Employees' Union) played an important role in this legal battle. Congratulations to all the members and office bearers of the organization for this success, who raised their voice against the repression of the Mamata government.
