Delhi Government Intensifies Action in Alleged CPA Scam, 74 Doctors Transferred in Major Reshuffle

The Delhi government has stepped up its administrative action in connection with the alleged Central Procurement Agency (CPA) scam, ordering the transfer of 74 doctors across multiple government hospitals in what is being described as one of the biggest departmental reshuffles linked to the ongoing investigation.

The latest move comes as authorities continue to scrutinise alleged irregularities in the health department. Officials say the transfers are part of a broader effort to reorganise administrative structures and address concerns arising from the probe.

According to departmental orders issued late at night, doctors posted at several major government healthcare institutions, including the Central Jail Hospital (CJH) in Tihar, have been reassigned to new locations. Sources familiar with the matter indicated that many of the affected officials had been serving at the same institutions for extended periods.

Among the hospitals impacted by the transfer exercise are Mahavir Hospital, Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital, Indira Gandhi Hospital, Satyawadi Raja Harish Chandra Hospital, Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital and Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital.

Officials believe the reshuffle is significant because it targets positions where personnel had remained posted for years, potentially allowing entrenched administrative networks to develop. Out of the 74 doctors transferred in the latest order, 29 were reportedly serving at the Central Jail Hospital.

The fresh transfers add to a series of actions already taken in connection with the alleged scam. Earlier, recommendations had been made for the transfer of 39 doctors and 35 pharmacists associated with the health department. Following the required approvals, those transfers were also implemented.

With the latest round of postings, the total number of personnel transferred in connection with the matter has reached 148, according to official figures cited by sources.

The alleged CPA scam, reportedly involving procurement-related irregularities worth hundreds of crores of rupees, has triggered extensive administrative and investigative action within the Delhi health department. The case has led to increased scrutiny of procurement practices, staffing arrangements and departmental oversight mechanisms.

Alongside transfers, disciplinary measures have also been initiated against several employees. Officials confirmed that a data assistant identified as Sumit Singh was dismissed from service following departmental action. In addition, two employees posted in the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) office, identified as Umesh Tyagi and Kapil, were suspended with immediate effect.

The action follows earlier developments in which senior officials came under investigation, prompting authorities to widen the scope of inquiries to include personnel working at various operational levels within the department.

Investigating agencies are continuing to examine records and gather information related to the alleged irregularities. Sources indicated that additional administrative action could follow if further evidence emerges during the course of the probe.

While authorities have not publicly disclosed the full details of the ongoing investigation, officials maintain that measures are being taken to ensure accountability and strengthen transparency within the health department.

The developments have generated significant attention in Delhi’s administrative circles, with observers viewing the large-scale transfer exercise as a signal that the government intends to pursue the matter aggressively.

Further action is expected as investigations continue and agencies review the roles of additional officials and employees linked to the case.
