In a strategic move ahead of the Bihar elections, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has appointed Mangni Lal as the new state president, replacing Jagdanand Singh.

Following approval from the party’s National Election Officer, Dr. Ramchandra Purve, election officials from Bihar and other states have published the State Council list in all state offices of the party.

On June 14, the nomination process for the state president and members of the National Council will take place at RJD offices in Bihar as well as other states.

On Thursday, June 19, the election for the state president and other council members will be held at Gyan Bhawan in Patna, under the supervision of state election officer Tanveer Hasan during the meeting of the State Council. The results will also be declared the same day, meaning RJD will have a new state president in Bihar next week.

Jagdanand Out, Mangani Lal In
Speculation about the removal of Jagdanand Singh from the post of RJD’s state president had been ongoing for a while. Singh, a prominent upper-caste Rajput face of the party, has been detached from party activities for the past few months. He even skipped the RJD’s national executive meeting and hasn’t been seen at the party office in a long time.

He is now set to be replaced by Mangani Lal Mandal, who belongs to the Extremely Backward Class (EBC). Mandal is a former minister in the Bihar government, and has served as a Member of Parliament in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

Although he had briefly joined Nitish Kumar’s JD(U), he returned to the RJD earlier this year.
