Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday launched a sharp attack on the BJP government in the state, claiming that the administration under Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma is in disarray and lacking accountability. Speaking to reporters at his Jaipur residence, Gehlot alleged that governance in Rajasthan has “completely collapsed” and that “even the Chief Minister’s own secretary doesn’t listen to him.”
Gehlot said people across the state are unhappy and confused about where to take their grievances, while even BJP legislators admit they have no voice in the current government. “There is no such thing as a government in Rajasthan. Ministers are not ready to take responsibility,” he remarked.
Taking a swipe at the BJP over the “Red Diary” controversy, Gehlot claimed it was “a scripted ploy by the BJP high command” to malign the Congress. “I had said earlier that the Prime Minister would raise the Red Diary issue in Sikar, and that’s exactly what happened. The diary was empty, but they used it to damage us politically,” he said.
The former Chief Minister also accused the government of insensitivity, citing the recent Jaipur dumper accident. He said victims’ families were yet to receive compensation, adding that aid now comes “only after protests.”
Gehlot further accused theBJP of politicizing the 150th anniversary celebrations of Vande Mataram. “This is Congress’s legacy, the legacy of the freedom struggle. RSS never sang Vande Mataram in its shakhas, nor did it hoist the tricolour for decades. Now they want to appropriate what they once opposed,” he said.
Calling for national unity in the commemoration, Gehlot urged that Vande Mataram be celebrated as a national event, not a partisan one. “The BJP wants to rewrite history so the coming generations remember only RSS. This will not be acceptable,” he asserted.
