BJP MLA’s Controversial Remark on Women Sparks Political Outrage in Bihar

A derogatory remark made by BJP MLA Pramod Kumar about women has drawn sharp political backlash in Bihar, with the RJD and Congress demanding an apology and action against the legislator. The controversy erupted after a video surfaced in which the Motihari MLA claimed that “many women sleep with dogs for satisfaction,” while responding to questions about Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury bringing her pet dog to Parliament. Efforts by Bhaskar to reach the MLA for clarification went unanswered.

The statement prompted immediate condemnation from opposition parties. RJD spokesperson Priyanka Bharti, sharing the video on social media, accused the BJP of normalising “indecent and offensive” behaviour and questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence. “Does the PM get satisfaction when his leaders insult women like this?” she asked.

The Congress also criticised the remark. Party spokesperson Dr. Snehasish Vardhan termed it “shameful and reflective of the RSS-BJP mindset,” urging the MLA to apologise publicly. RJD’s Ejaz Ahmad said the comment insulted all women and questioned the absence of condemnation from BJP’s women leaders.

The row comes days after Renuka Chowdhury arrived at Parliament with a puppy on 1 November during the opening of the winter session. BJP MPs objected to her action, calling it a breach of protocol. Chowdhury defended herself, saying she picked up the stray puppy to save it from traffic and sent it back immediately. “The real biters are inside Parliament,” she said, criticising the government’s reaction.

Parliament rules strictly prohibit pets within the complex under security and conduct regulations. Parliamentary handbooks also bar any object or creature that may compromise the dignity or security of the institution.

Chowdhury, a senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP from Telangana, has served in multiple Union ministries since beginning her political career with the TDP before joining the Congress in 1998.

With the controversy escalating, opposition parties have demanded disciplinary action against Pramod Kumar, while the BJP has yet to issue an official response.
