EC Responds Strongly to Tejashwi's Boycott Remark Over 'Fake Votes'

Reacting to Tejashwi Yadav’s statement about boycotting elections, the Election Commission questioned, “Should fake votes be allowed in Bihar?” The sharp response has intensified the political debate.

The Election Commission's answer has come out on the voter list revision matter before the Bihar elections. In fact, many political parties were raising questions about this decision of the Election Commission. Leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav had said on Wednesday that boycott of elections can be considered.

Now the Election Commission has answered its critics. The Commission said, "The Constitution of India is the mother of Indian democracy.... So, fearing these things, should the Election Commission, under the influence of some people, go against the Constitution, first in Bihar, then in the whole country, make a way to cast fake votes in the name of dead voters, permanently migrated voters, voters who have registered their votes at two places, fake voters or foreign voters?"

The Commission asked, "Isn't the authentic voter list prepared by the Election Commission through a transparent process the foundation of fair elections and strong democracy? At some point of time, all of us and all citizens of India will have to think deeply on these questions, going beyond political ideologies. And perhaps the most appropriate time for this necessary reflection has come in India now."

Voter list revision is being done after 22 years
This is the first time in the last 22 years in Bihar, when a special intensive revision of the voter list is being done in this way.

The main purpose of this is to correct the voter list, make it clean and transparent. Through this, ineligible, duplicate/fake or non-existent entries are to be removed, so that it can be ensured that only all eligible citizens are included in it.
