EC to Rahul Gandhi: Avoid words like ‘vote theft’, recall 73-year-old law

The Election Commission cautioned Rahul Gandhi against using terms like “vote theft,” reminding him of a 73-year-old law governing election conduct. The EC emphasized maintaining decorum in political discourse.
Amidst allegations of 'vote theft' by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the Election Commission hit back at the opposition parties and said that instead of fabricating a false story by using 'dirty words' like 'vote theft', they should provide evidence.
The Election Commission said that if anyone has any evidence of a person actually voting twice in any election, he should share it with the Election Commission with a written affidavit, instead of calling all the voters of India 'thieves' without any proof.

Rahul Gandhi had alleged vote theft
Let us tell you that last week, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, citing figures, had alleged that more than one lakh votes were 'stolen' in the Mahadevapura assembly constituency of Bengaluru Central Lok Sabha in the 2024 elections, resulting in the defeat of a Congress candidate. The Election Commission had directed Gandhi to give a written declaration on his claims.

Rahul had alleged in the past that "there are not one or two but many seats where this has happened. This is happening systematically at the national level. The Election Commission knows this. Earlier there was no proof but now there is.
He said that we are protecting the Constitution. The Election Commission is not fulfilling its duty of 'one person, one vote'. The picture is yet to be finalized.
