Government Orders Probe Into Rajasthan Cricket Association Selection Row

The Rajasthan Sports Council has initiated an official inquiry against Deendayal Kumawat, convener of the ad-hoc committee of the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA), following allegations of financial irregularities and misuse of authority. The investigation, led by Sunil Bhati, Secretary of the Sports Council, will focus on alleged misconduct in player selection and financial management.

Complaint by Ad-Hoc Committee Members

The probe was triggered after four committee members — Pinkesh Jain, Mohit Yadav, Ashish Tiwari, and Dhananjay Singh Khinvsar — filed a complaint with the Sports Minister and officials of the Cooperative Department.

They accused Kumawat of taking unilateral decisions, bypassing other members in key matters such as player selection, hotel bookings, kit purchases, and expense approvals. The members alleged that he was running the committee in a “dictatorial manner,” leading to growing discontent within the RCA.

Following these charges, Principal Secretary (Sports) Neeraj Kumar Pawan ordered a formal inquiry, directing that a detailed report be submitted to Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore within seven days.

Kumawat Dismisses Allegations

Reacting to the allegations, Deendayal Kumawat termed them baseless and politically motivated, claiming that he was being targeted for exposing an alleged ₹9 crore scam within the Sports Council.

He alleged that certain officials, linked to the Congress party, were attempting to discredit him. According to Kumawat, the current controversy is being fuelled to shift control of the RCA back to the Sports Council, especially ahead of activities related to the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Internal Feud Stalls Cricket Operations

The internal rift within the Rajasthan Cricket Association has deepened over the past month. Out of five ad-hoc committee members, four have rebelled against Kumawat, paralysing cricket administration in the state.

Due to the ongoing disputes, player selections, domestic tournaments, and training activities have come to a halt. The Senior Selection Committee was recently dissolved and replaced amid the turmoil, while even informal events like the Diwali get-together were reportedly cancelled due to tensions.

Government to Review RCA Decisions

The state-appointed inquiry panel will scrutinise all financial and administrative decisions taken by the ad-hoc committee in recent months. Once the report is submitted, the government will decide on further disciplinary or corrective action based on the committee’s findings.

The controversy marks yet another chapter in the long-running infighting that has plagued Rajasthan cricket administration, raising questions about transparency and governance in the sport’s state body
