The Health Department has taken strict action against JCC Heart Institute in Jamnagar after uncovering multiple violations under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY-MA) scheme. On the orders of Health Minister Praful Pansheriya, the hospital has been suspended from scheme operations and fined over Rs. 6 lakh following discrepancies in 105 cardiac procedures.
Investigations revealed that 53 of these procedures were performed without medical necessity, with laboratory and ECG reports allegedly tampered to justify the interventions. Dr. Parshva Vhora (G-28538) has been suspended for deficiencies in cardiology and cardiovascular thoracic surgery.
Health Minister Praful Pansheriya emphasized the government’s commitment to patient safety, stating, “PM-JAY scheme is a blessing for poor and needy citizens. Any kind of malpractice or inhumane negligence will not be tolerated.”
Other private hospitals were also penalized during recent inspections. Palanpur’s Sadbhavna Hospital was fined Rs. 50,000 for surgeries performed by non-empaneled doctors, while Junagadh’s Samanvay Hospital faced a similar fine for overcharging beyond the package rate.
In a related incident, 19 villagers from Borisan, Kadi, underwent angiography at Ahmedabad’s Khyati Hospital without family consent. Seven patients received angioplasty, two died, and five remain in ICU. The procedures were conducted by Dr. Prashant Vazirani. The incident triggered protests at the hospital, prompting officials, including Dr. Bhavin Solanki, Standing Committee Chairman Devang Dani, and former Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel, to visit and assess the situation.
The state health department has reiterated that strict action will continue against hospitals or doctors involved in malpractice, highlighting transparency and public interest as priorities in government health schemes.
