JDU Women’s Cell Leader Attacked with Sword in Bhojpur After Refusing to Withdraw Molestation Case

A local JDU women’s cell leader was seriously injured after being attacked with a sword in Bhojpur district on Monday. The assault took place in Kulhadia village under Koilwar police station limits, where two accused allegedly ambushed the 35-year-old leader while she was returning home with her elder daughter.

ccording to the victim, the attack was linked to an ongoing molestation case involving her younger daughter. She said the same men had allegedly assaulted her daughter during Chhath Puja last year, and the case has been pending in court. She claimed the accused had been pressuring her to withdraw the complaint and launched the attack after she refused.

The woman sustained a one-inch-deep wound on her back and severe injuries to her chest and abdomen from kicks and punches. She received five stitches at Koilwar Primary Health Centre before being referred to Ara Sadar Hospital, and later to Patna for further treatment.

Her elder daughter, who witnessed the assault, said the attackers had been lying in wait. “We were returning from the bank when they suddenly came toward us. They struck my mother with a sword when she tried to run,” she said. Local residents rushed to the spot after hearing her cries, prompting the attackers to flee.

The victim, a divorcee and mother of two, has been active in party work and served as the Bhojpur in-charge of the JDU women’s team during the recent Bihar Assembly elections. She told police she had repeatedly received threats since filing the molestation complaint and had earlier informed the Superintendent of Police.

Dr. Saroj Kumar at Ara Sadar Hospital confirmed the injuries and said the patient had suffered internal trauma. Koilwar Station Officer Narottam Kumar visited the scene and said actionable steps would follow after recording the woman’s statement.
