Nitin Nabin Set to Become BJP National President, Poised to Be Party’s Youngest Leader

BJP’s working president Nitin Nabin is scheduled to file his nomination on Sunday to become the party’s 12th national president, potentially becoming the youngest leader to hold the position. The nomination process is set to take place at the BJP headquarters in Delhi between 2 PM and 4 PM, with scrutiny from 4 PM to 5 PM and withdrawals allowed until 6 PM. If only his nomination is found valid, Nabin will be declared elected unopposed; otherwise, voting will be held on January 20.

Nabin, 45, currently serves as the party’s national executive president. By comparison, his predecessor Amit Shah was 50 when he assumed the post. Party sources said most chief ministers, state unit heads, and senior leaders are expected to be present during the nomination process, reflecting the political significance of the transition.

Political rise and legislative experience

Born on May 23, 1980, in Patna, Nitin Nabin began his political career assisting his father in urban politics. He won his first legislative seat in 2006 from Patna West Assembly, gradually consolidating support among urban voters, the middle class, and business communities. He subsequently represented Bankipur Assembly, winning five consecutive terms until 2025, cementing his status as a trusted leader in both party organisation and governance.

Organisational achievements in Chhattisgarh and beyond

Nabin gained national recognition as BJP’s state in-charge for Chhattisgarh, helping the party form the government in a state traditionally dominated by Congress. His efforts included strengthening the booth-level worker network, organising local events, and enhancing grassroots engagement. Party insiders suggest Nabin will adopt a similar strategy in West Bengal and northeastern states to expand BJP’s presence and electoral footprint.

Youth leadership and upcoming elections

Under Nitin Nabin’s leadership, the BJP plans to promote youth leadership, with nearly 80% of new leaders expected to be under 50. Assembly elections in five states next year will see Nabin forming core teams of general secretaries and ministers, reflecting a broader organisational rejuvenation. In the last six months, BJP has successfully elected state presidents unopposed in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand, indicating a trend towards internal consensus and streamlined leadership transitions.

With Nitin Nabin’s expected elevation, the BJP aims to blend experience with youth, projecting a dynamic leadership ahead of key electoral challenges.
