Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is set to take oath for another term at 11:30 AM on Thursday at Gandhi Maidan, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi among the dignitaries expected to attend, JD(U) Executive President Sanjay Jha confirmed.
On Wednesday, the JD(U) legislature party convened at the Chief Minister’s residence, electing Nitish Kumar as the party leader. Following this, the BJP is anticipated to hold its own legislature party meeting to appoint its leader. Subsequently, an NDA legislature party meeting is scheduled for 3:30 PM in the Central Hall of the Assembly, where ministerial appointments are expected to be finalised. Reports indicate that up to 13 ministers could be inducted from the JD(U) quota.
The NDA legislature party meeting will bring together all 202 MLAs from the alliance, including BJP, JD(U), LJP (R), HAM, and RLM, alongside senior leaders such as Chirag Paswan, Santosh Suman, Upendra Kushwaha, Samrat Chaudhary, and Vijay Sinha. The meeting will confirm Nitish Kumar as the leader, after which he will submit his resignation to the Governor and simultaneously stake claim to form the government. Officials expect the process to conclude by evening.
Nitish Kumar personally inspected Gandhi Maidan on Tuesday to review preparations for the swearing-in ceremony. The event is being held at a historically significant venue, with elaborate arrangements for security and seating.
The oath-taking ceremony on 20 November will be attended by top national leaders, including Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP President JP Nadda, and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Chief Ministers from Delhi, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra are also expected, along with Padma awardees, scientists, writers, and other dignitaries.
This ceremony marks another milestone in Nitish Kumar’s political career, highlighting the NDA’s continued prominence in Bihar politics and signalling the formation of the new state cabinet in the coming days.
