Pappu Yadav Intervenes as Congress Workers Protest Ticket Distribution in Patna

Congress faced a wave of internal dissent on Thursday as party workers staged a protest at Sadakat Ashram in Patna, demanding accountability for alleged mismanagement in ticket allocation during the Bihar Assembly elections. Purnea MP Pappu Yadav intervened personally, sitting on the floor to calm disgruntled party members and engage them in dialogue.

The protesters, frustrated with the party’s poor performancewinning only six seats as part of the Grand Alliance—accused senior leaders of backing unsuitable candidates. Slogans such as “Ticket thief, leave the seat” were raised, directly targeting state Congress president Rajesh Ram, in-charge Krishna Allavaru, and leaders including Pappu Yadav and Akhilesh Singh.

“The tickets were given to the wrong candidates. This is why our position is weak today,” one protester said, highlighting deep-seated dissatisfaction over the party’s electoral strategy. Workers demanded the resignation of key office-bearers, citing allegations of ticket sales and favoritism during candidate selection.

In a show of assertive internal management, the Congress party issued formal notices to 43 leaders, including former ministers, MLAs, state office-bearers, and district committee presidents, warning of strict disciplinary action for non-compliance. Notable names on the notice list include Afaq Alam, Anand Madhav, Chhatrapati Yadav, Veena Shahi, Dr. Ajay Kumar Singh, and Kanchana Kumari. The notice emphasized that any activity harming the party’s unity and credibility would be addressed sternly, including potential six-year expulsion.

Political analysts note that the protests reflect mounting dissatisfaction at the grassroots level, which could impact the Congress’ organizational stability in Bihar ahead of upcoming elections. Pappu Yadav’s intervention aimed to mediate tensions and signal leadership engagement, though the broader challenge of restoring party discipline and trust remains significant.

The party now faces the task of reconciling its cadres while implementing strategic changes to rebuild credibility and voter confidence in Bihar’s complex political landscape.
