Congress leader Pawan Khera launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah during a press conference in Patna on Saturday, stirring political debate ahead of the Bihar Assembly polls.
Referring to the Prime Minister’s recent remarks about “katta” (country-made pistol) and “kanpati” (temple), Khera made a controversial jibe, suggesting that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar “should hold a katta to his temple and declare himself CM,” accusing the BJP of denying him real power despite their alliance.
“The Prime Minister talks about katta and kanpati, but I advise Nitish Babu to use the katta metaphorically and declare himself Chief Minister. These people will not make you CM otherwise,” Khera said, alleging deep discord within the NDA’s Bihar camp. He added that the alliance between the JD(U) and Chirag Paswan’s faction lacked coordination and enthusiasm, indicating a “visible frustration” in the ruling bloc’s campaign.
Khera also targeted Amit Shah, alleging secrecy during the Home Minister’s stay in Patna. “When Shah comes to a hotel, CCTV cameras in the lift are covered with paper. Who is he meeting secretly? Why is the hotel forced to do this? It’s a serious security concern,” he claimed.
Citing internal Congress assessments, Khera said the Mahagathbandhan was “winning around 72 seats” in the first phase, attributing the surge to rising unemployment and anti-incumbency. “Every time the Prime Minister speaks in Bihar, their vote share drops. His rallies are helping us,” he added.
Khera concluded by asserting that theBJP’s campaign had lost momentum, claiming that the ruling alliance’s leadership crisis and public anger over governance failures would prove decisive in the upcoming polls.
