Raj Bhavan Dismisses Explosive Allegations, Opens Premises for Inspection Amid Escalating Political Row

A political storm erupted on Monday after Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee alleged that weapons and ammunition were being stored inside Raj Bhavan. The Governor’s office issued a sharp rebuttal, calling the claims “baseless and inflammatory,” and took the unprecedented step of inviting public inspection of the premises.

In a detailed statement, Raj Bhavan announced that up to 100 individuals—including MPs, journalists, and members of civil societywould be allowed immediate access to verify the allegations. “Inspect the premises yourselves. If the charge is found to be false, the MP must apologise to the people and face legal consequences for hate speech,” the statement read.

The Governor’s office also questioned the plausibility of such a security breach, noting that Raj Bhavan falls fully under the protection of Kolkata Police. It warned that any such lapse would endanger the Governor, who is accorded Z-Plus security, as well as officials living and working inside the compound.

According to officials, security agencies had advised the Governor to temporarily relocate until the matter was clarified. The Governor refused, saying, “I will stay in Raj Bhavan, no matter what,” underscoring the seriousness with which the office views the accusation.

Raj Bhavan further stated that the Lok Sabha Speaker would be formally notified and requested to examine the conduct of the MP. The communication is expected to cite concerns over the “gravity and public impact” of the allegations.

The confrontation has intensified political tensions in West Bengal, with both the ruling TMC and opposition parties closely monitoring developments. While the MP has not withdrawn his comment, opposition leaders have demanded a thorough investigation to restore public confidence.

With Raj Bhavan opening its gates for verification, the focus now shifts to whether the inspection will defuse the controversy or deepen the ongoing political standoff in the state.
